Picture Yourself Being Organized
I have talked to many people, both clients and prospective clients, about whether or not hiring a professional organizer is a luxury. Depending on what is going on in your life, some of you think it is, and others of you understand that you are buying into a way of life. When I talked to my clients about this, they told me that getting organized and maintaining the organizational systems we put into place is a way of life, not a one-shot deal and definitely not a luxury.
Can you relate to what happens when you don’t have simple systems in place?
- You don’t realize you’ve already bought an item many times because you can’t find it.
- You keep spending money on those items because you don’t know where they are.
- Maybe you’ve even spent money on an organizing product, thinking that would help you.
- Most of the time, that product is the wrong size, wrong color, and doesn’t fit where you want to put it.
- If you try to return the product, you may not be able to find the receipt.
Factor in the wasted time, and maybe you’ll realize that getting and staying organized is really not a luxury, but a way of life that can actually save money in the long run.
As a professional organizer, I totally understand how being organized helps avoid feeling overwhelmed by “stuff”. Sure, there are times when I am so busy that parts of my house, especially my office, are out-of-control. I even have to laugh and say to myself, I need to hire me to put some order back in my life. When that happens, I do what I suggest to my clients. I stop for a minute, take a deep breath, assess my situation, decide what I want to accomplish, and how much time I can give to this task. In fact, I have to do this periodically because life is always changing. My systems are in place, and they do need tweaking every so often because my needs change, but I never have to spend hours putting things away because I have systems that works.
We all react differently to circumstances in our lives. Being organized is a great way to minimize the stress we feel at times. There are many things out of our control, but what is in our control is embracing an organized lifestyle. Close your eyes for a minute. Can you picture how being organized can help you?
Some of you may need help getting started. Some of you may need both help getting started and maintaining. Some of you may never have learned the skills to become organized. It doesn’t matter what your situation is. I am hoping when you are ready that you, too, can embrace the fact that being organized is not a luxury, but a way of life. And a very good one at that!
