Do Your Friends and Family Want Them?
Gift cards and gift certificates are a wonderful idea for gifts during the holidays (or anytime, for that matter). As the person giving, they are easy to buy, and as the recipient, you can use them for items that you like. I have given them as gifts myself because I may not always know what the receivers need or want, but I do make sure they like getting them. In addition, I, too, like receiving them.
Here are 3 tips to take into consideration when giving and receiving gift cards and/or gift certificates:
- Know what the recipient likes and wants. Do not give a card or a certificate to someone who will not use it or will be angry with you. I know you are doing this out of the goodness of your heart, but the other person may not take it that way. If you are not sure, ask. The worst thing that will happen is if the person says yes, it won’t be a surprise.
- Make sure you know that the person will use it. There is no sense in spending your money on a card or certificate if the person will never use it. Do not assume anything.
- Put your gift cards and certificates in one spot where they are easy to access. Keep them separated by category. Check to see if they have expiration dates. If they do, use them first. Most of all, remember to use them. They were given to you for a reason, and just think, you will not have to spend your money on something that you want.
If you know someone who would like an organizing gift certificate, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to send one to you, but please, do yourself a favor, and ask the person first.
I wish you, your family, and friends a very happy, healthy, and peaceful holiday season and beyond.
