Let’s face it. When it comes to being organized, I like to be lazy. I’m not lazy when it comes to the rest of my life, but I am about being organized. A friend of mine had this plaque hanging in her kitchen, and it dawned on me that I really am too lazy to look for things.
What I mean by this is that I don’t want to waste my time searching for items I already know I have. I discovered that to stay this way is to make sure I’ve assigned a home to things.
Here are 3 tips for you to become a “lazy” organizer:
- When you bring something new into your house, put it away before the end of the day (this applies to incoming mail as well). Make sure you put the item away in the same place you have other like items. You will not only know where the items are, but you will also know how much of the item you have.
- Do as much as you can the night before. Make sure your keys and cell phone are readily accessible. Are your children’s backpacks near the front door? Are your files in your briefcase? Are lunches ready to be taken out of the refrigerator and put into lunch bags?
- Commit 15 minutes at the end of the day to putting things away. You can be more productive when you start the next day with an organized area. Just think – you’ll know where you have to begin, and where things are.
Want to join me in being a “lazy” organizer? Even though the New Year is a good time to put these 3 tips into practice, you can do it anytime. There is no time like the present. And, if you skip one day, just start again the next day.
Now is a great time to go from Bedlam to Brilliance!
