Holding on to items for children and grandchildren is very tempting. You may be thinking that they’ll want your things, but in reality they have their own things. That doesn’t mean they won’t want something, but they may not want the vase in the shape of a flamingo. Whether you want to call it down-sizing or right-sizing (I personally like right-sizing better; it sounds more positive), it is hard to take everything with you if you are moving to a place with less square footage. There are lots of services out there to help your parents, you, or anyone you know at that time. Here’s the link to an article in the Aug/Sept 2011 Girlfriendz Magazine issue entitled Senior Concierge Services – http://www.girlfriendzmag.com/2011/08/senior-concierge-services/. Perhaps the time has come to ask your children and grandchildren what they want or need. For those items they don’t want or need, take a picture before donating. At least the memory will be preserved!
