Are You Ready in the Event of an Emergency?
Did you know that September is National Preparedness Month? At least I know that a month has been dedicated to preparing for an emergency, but if you really think about it, we should be prepared every month. You could get everything ready in September, and then you would be prepared for any kind of emergency at any time. We, in New Jersey, experienced Hurricane Sandy in the Fall of 2012. Those of you on the West Coast have had earthquakes and will probably have them again. Right now, the people in and around Boulder, CO are experiencing floods. An emergency can hit anytime, and it’s certainly better to be safe than sorry.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a lot of information. Here’s the link to their overall website: http://www.ready.gov/.
Under the umbrella website are various other very helpful links:
- Be informed – http://www.ready.gov/be-informed – what to do before, during, and after an emergency.
- Make a plan – http://www.ready.gov/make-a-plan – prepare, plan, and stay informed.
- Build a kit – http://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit – build a kit for disasters to be prepared.
I, for one, need to do this. Rather than worrying about it and doing nothing, this is one thing I am going to cross off of my to-do list. Worrying about something never gets anything done. Like with anything in life, I need to commit myself to doing this, and I will be happy to join those of you who are already prepared. Just think, I won’t have to knock on your door if I am not prepared. 🙂 I might have people knocking on my door instead.
P.S. Don’t forget your pets.
