It’s More Fun NOT to be Perfect!
I recently returned from a vacation of a lifetime – Prague in The Czech Republic for several days, a 7-day bike ride from Prague to Budapest in Hungary, and Budapest for several days. I’ve wanted to visit these 2 cities for quite some time, so when the opportunity presented itself, I was very excited to do this. Plans were made many months in advance, and my friend and I picked the end of August/beginning of September because we figured the weather would be perfect. There’s that word – PERFECT!
Were we not surprised when we had to ride for 3 ½ days in the rain. In fact, we had to wear our rain gear, which consisted of both pants and a jacket, during the days and dry our bike shoes and bike gloves with the hair dryer in our room at night. Where was that beautiful blue sky, no wind, and temperature in the 70’s? We did finally see a blue sky, but guess what, our perfect vacation was NOT PERFECT. We dealt with the crummy weather because it was either bike or ride in a van.
To my way of thinking, getting started and continuing is better than doing nothing, even if the conditions and the timing are not perfect. We paid for a bike vacation, and we really wanted to bike, so that is exactly what we did. Every afternoon when we returned to the hotel where we were staying for the night, we congratulated ourselves that we completed the ride for that day, and indeed had fun. Of course, hindsight is 20/20.
As I was riding in the rain, I knew I’d figure out a story that could relate to de-cluttering and organizing. How many of you either do not get started or do not continue to organize because you think whatever you do won’t be perfect?
Think how much better you will feel when you get started and continue your organizing projects. Not only will you be able to congratulate yourself, but you will also finally have the time to do those things that you love. In addition, you’ll also save money so you won’t have to buy the same things over and over again and save time so you won’t have to spend lots of minutes or hours looking for those items you know you already have.
Since we were on vacation, we celebrated our accomplishment every night by having a glass 0f wine! How are you going to celebrate when you realize that NOT being PERFECT can be fun?
Now is Your Time to Go from Bedlam to Brilliance!
