From Bedlam to Brilliance

How many of you have put off making that first call with anything that you think you should or want to do? If you are like most people, the answer to that question is yes. That call may be a top priority one day, however, the next day, another priority comes up and that call is not made.

For the past several months, I have had clients who finally got up the nerve to call me because they realized that they finally needed help with their organizing challenges. In fact, one of my clients who had my contact information for about 10 years finally called me. Each of these clients had different organizing challenges, however, they had one thing in common. They finally realized they needed and wanted the help of a professional to get their lives back in order.

When I asked them why they had a hard time making that first call, I heard a lot of the same reasons. Ask yourself if this sounds like you.

I was very anxious.
I worried about making mistakes.
I thought I could do this on my own.
My spouse thought I should be able to do this without the help of a professional organizer.
Would I make the right decisions about what to keep and what not to keep?
I have no idea how my house got like this. I used to be very organized.

Whatever the reason, at this point, it didn’t matter. The call was made, and I applauded my clients for making that first call. We all know we can’t change the past, but we can make both our present and future better. Clutter does not have to rule your life.

Life’s transitions may or may not be the source of clutter – marriage, children, retirement, health, death. I learn from my clients every day, and what I know about them in these types of situations is that they really do not want to live in chaos any longer. They want order in their lives, and they no longer want to feel stressed or overwhelmed. My clients finally become reacquainted with what they own. They canand want to learn to change their daily habits from a professional.
