Your Goal of Less is More is DEFINITELY Attainable!
I hear the phrase “make my stuff just go away” frequently. The first time I heard it both my client and I laughed after the words came out of her mouth. She was truly at the point of needing help to decide what to keep and what not to keep. Her things were getting in her way both physically and mentally. Whether you are moving or staying in your home or office, needing guidance is nothing to be ashamed of to “make your stuff go away”.
I tell my clients all the time that they can do things I can’t. I am not very good around sick people, yet my doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner clients don’t think twice. I also don’t want to do my own taxes or legal work. That’s why I have an accountant and an attorney to help me. We all need help. I just happen to be good at assisting you in “making your stuff go away”.
To help you make these decisions, we follow 4 steps. The acronym is SPCA.
- S = Sort, putting like with like. This gives you an idea of how much you have of 1 thing.
- P = Purge, which doesn’t always mean throwing away. You can also donate, shred, or recycle.
- C = Containerize and label, which is putting what you’ve decided to keep in some type of repository. Depending on the items, it could be, for example, a plastic box, cardboard box, file folder, etc.
- A = Assign a home, which is a way of knowing where you put what you’ve decided to keep.
You are totally in control during the process, which works with all items. You can either make the decisions yourself, I can help you make the decision, or you can leave it up to me to make the decision. When I see something that is stained, ripped, broken, or hasn’t been used in years and you are going back and forth with whether you should keep the item, I may suggest you get rid of it. However, the final decision is up to you. Just think, your goal of taking care of less will ultimately help you feel less overwhelmed, less stressed, and lighter.
As Confucius says, “it does not matter how slowly you go so long as you don’t stop.” What are you going to do to make your stuff go away?
